We are elated to announce that His Eminence the 7th Kyabjé Yongzin Ling Rinpoche will visit The Tibet Center in South Orange, NJ, on Tuesday April 16 - 7pm, to teach The Foundation of All Good Qualities. Rinpoche will also bestow an oral transmission of In Praise of Dependent Arising.

The teaching will take place at the Baird building 5 Mead Street in South Orange, NJ 07079 at 7pm.

FOUNDER OF LINGSKINCARE AND TIBET CENTER MEMBER LING CHAN HAS PASSED AWAY

RIP LING CHAN

It is with great sadness to let you know that our dear friend and Dharma Sister Ling Chan passed away Saturday February 25th 2023 here in New York City.

‘Ling Chan grew up in Hong Kong and immigrated to New York City at the age of 21. There she began her career in the beauty industry and soon realized that in order to provide for her family while achieving the American dream, she decided to pursue her passion in esthetics. While preserving her rich Chinese heritage, Ling simultaneously assimilated into mainstream American culture and opened her first spa in 1984 at the renowned intersection, 57th street and 5th avenue in NYC.’

A devote Buddhist practitioner, Ling was a longtime member and stalwart supporter of The Tibet Center. When The Tibet Center lost its temple / office, Ling hosted us in her Lingskincare warehouses until we found our new space. When Rato monastery experienced difficult overcrowding conditions, Ling played an integral role in the project to expand the monks’ quarters and new Temple building.

Khyongla Rato Rinpoche was very close to Ling and he considered her family. We will miss her warmth and compassion as she watched over and took care of us all. She meant so much to us and we will miss her greatly.

FUND ESTABLISHED FOR THE CREATION OF KHYONGLA RATO RINPOCHE'S STUPA

The Tibet Center has commissioned the creation two silver stupas in memory of Khyongla Rato Rinpoche. The stupas will contain some of Rinpoche’s remains and will be permanently housed at the reestablished Rato monastery in Karnataka, INDIA and the other permanently housed at Rinpoche’s center in the West - The Tibet Center NJ, USA.

The stupas will be objects of devotion, much like a Buddhist statue for future generations and will cement The Tibet Center as an enduring presence for good in the world as Khyongla Rato Rinpoche intended and will hasten his return to preside over The Tibet Center in the future.

We have started a fund for the creation of the two reliquary stupas in Rinpoche’s honor. You can make a tax-deductible contribution through The Tibet Center towards these two reliquaries here below…

The Tibet Center requests His Holiness to write a prayer for Rato Khyongla Rinpoche's Swift Return

Students, Members and Friends of The Tibet Center / Kunkhyab Thardo Ling, sent a request to His Holiness the Dalai Lama asking Him to write a prayer for Rato Khyongla Rinpoche's swift return.

We are so grateful to His Holiness for granting our request on May 26, 2022 the same day Rinpoche left his meditative state.

THE TIBET CENTER SADLY ANNOUNCES THE PEACEFUL PASSING OF RATO KHYONGLA RINPOCHE IN DHARAMSALA TODAY MAY 24, 2022

Venerable Khenpo Rinpoche Nicholas Vreeland is with him and is currently performing prayers along with Rato monks in Rinpoche’s presence. His Holiness’ office has been informed and Venerable Ling Rinpoche is advising Venerable Vreeland.

Venerable Vreeland asks us to kindly say prayers on Rinpoche’s behalf and we will have a further statement in the near future.

It is with great sadness to let our TTC family and friends know that Nima Dorjee passed away last night around midnight PST. Nima was one of The Tibet Center's founders and Khyongla Rato Rinpoche's cousin, Nima's wife of some 43 years, Elizabeth Bernard, niece Kalsang Dolma and nephew were by his side...

SERVICE AND PRAYERS FOR NIMA DORJEE

A service for Nima will be held Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 in Tacoma, WA at 10am to 11am Pacific Standard Time or 1pm to 2pm Eastern Standard Time.

Nima's wife Elisabeth Bernard requests friends to recite prayers and for those who can, the lighting of butter lamps. Elisabeth thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers and says that the, "outpouring of love has been comforting".

Nima Dorjee Ragnubs was a scholar and specialist in Tibetan art and Tibetan history. He worked as researcher and scholar at the Jacques Marchais Center for Tibetan Art, Staten Island, NY and his research at the Center resulted in a highly acclaimed book on Tibetan art history, Treasures of Tibetan Art, published by Oxford University Press. Nima also served as a consultant for the valuable Tibetan collection at Newark Museum, NJ where he participated in producing a Tibetan Sacred Art Video as well as a popular special exhibit on Tibetan culture and art. Throughout his scholarly career, he received grants including the JD Rockefeller III grant, NEH Travel to Collections grants, Luce Foundation grant, Tibet House grant and Asian Cultural Council grant. Nima was on The Tibet Center's Board of Directors and also served as its Vice President. In his later years Nima wrote a comprehensive history of his natal state of Dagyab in East Tibet and presented some aspects of his research at several international conferences in Europe and North America.

Nima was always a kind and gentle man and we all loved to hear the very funny stories of his younger days with Rinpoche. We will miss him so much.

It is with great sadness we write to inform that our dear friend and Tibet Center member, Marie Spina passed away last night in NJ. 

There wasn't a kinder, sweeter, wiser person in the world. She embodied wisdom and merit. Marie was an elder stateswomen and absolute heart of The Tibet Center. 

Because of the virus situation, right now there are no funeral plans. We will send updates about services or a memorial sometime in the future.

During the COVID19 health crisis The Tibet Center / Kunkhyab Thardo Ling will livestream classes and discussions on its Facebook page - @thetibetcenter - or here on the website until the it’s deemed safe to once again meet in public.
